Scoring the wilderness

Forests live on a spectrum from wonder to unease, and the music is how you tell the party which one they’re in. A sunlit elven wood wants warmth — strings, harp, gentle woodwinds, maybe birdsong layered in. The same trees at dusk, with something following, want the opposite: thin textures, an absent melody, the wrongness of a forest that’s gone quiet.

These are travel and exploration beds, so reach for long, loopable pieces and keep them soft under description and roleplay. Use the lusher tracks for safe passage and the eerier ones the moment the path forks toward something fey. Let the change in music do the foreshadowing before you say a word.

What music fits a forest or wilderness scene?
